New Jewellery and Favours
Just a quick news update! We added two new products recently as well as re-styling two of our pendants. Our new Flower Favours are a cute little gift for a friend, great for wedding favours or scrumptious for scattering on a dressing table.

Making Jewellery
I mentioned some weeks ago that I was going to try and share more about how we make our jewellery and giftware, this was in some way a result of customers at shows asking if we really made our own products!
I hope I’ve been keeping true to that promise. At the moment I’ve been busy in our workshops concentrating on some key new designs and products. The majority of our Pewter jewellery and giftware is created by hand carving an original model or pattern in jewellers wax. When finished these wax originals are then carefully and expertly used to make moulds. The wax carving can take days or weeks. Right Now I have one wax carving that has been on my jewellers bench for a month. The mould making process is not quick either and can take two weeks. After that we have to cast in pewter, clean up and start a long finishing process.
If I have an idea for a product for today in can take anywhere from a month to a half a year to actually get a product into our shop… and hopefully into your hands!
As to the wax carving here’s a photo of me working on a new pendant

Wax carving a heart pendant
This carving is in the early stages and there is a lot more detail to be added, it also needs to be scrupulously smooth. Sanding, polishing and finishing – there’s always a lot of that to do in any jewellery making!

Christmas Carvings
Best wishes for a great 2012! I hope you all also had a good Christmas. Unfortunately both Angela and I both had chest infections. Mine came on in mid December and was over by Christmas eve and Angela’s started on Christmas day!! Well at least we had a healthy Christmas day. I hope those of you who received Snug Craft Jewellery or gifts for christmas were pleasantly surprised, it was a real thrill for us to know so many people would be getting gifts that we had made!
I tend to get “restless fingers” when I’ve not been making something for a few days, and being ill for two weeks gets very boring very quick so once my energy had built up I dug around for some unfinished projects and offcuts of wood and set about carving.

Christmas Carvings - Lovespoons
These are not finished yet and need to be throughly sanded, oiled and then waxed with bees-wax. The larger spoon was supposed to be a gift for someone who helped at our wedding but I wasn’t happy with it and so never completed it, the smaller spoon is a new design. My wife dug this tray out for me to carve over while on the sofa feeling unwell – in a prime example of my powers of observation I only noticed it was a Christmas tray once I had cleared some carving chips from it!!
Carving in wood is very satisfying, but unlike carving in jewellery wax all mistakes are final – there is no going back!
We sell Pewter Lovespoons in our Snug Craft shop, pop along and have a look if you would like to see what we do!
Best wishes for 2012,
Martin & the Snug Craft team!
Hats Off!

I’ve not managed to develop my own film for a few months. So it was nice to find myself with a moment to develop a roll of film taken at a family wedding.
